Middle School Study Skills and Self Discovery:
Discover your purpose. Begin to design your life.
Before a student can start to make important decisions about their future, they must take the time to get to now themselves. They must be given opportunities to experiment, challenging ideas to consider, and discussions that assist in the process of clarifying the values, strengths, and ideas that become the building blocks of a purposely designed life course. We offer several programs, both in one on one and group settings, to help students in this foundation building before the crucial years of high school begin. Here's an idea of how we start to build skills and ideas that set students up for success:

We offer several programs, both in one on one and group settings, to help students in this foundation building before the crucial years of high school begin. Here's an idea of how we start to build skills and ideas that set students up for success:
- Self Discovery Profile: Students take assessments such as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator test that generate introspection and discussion about the way they interact with others, their leadership style, and career fields that tend to correlate with the personal approach.
- Extracurricular Activities and Leadership: Students think critically about the ways they interact with their peers, their teachers, and other adults. They select and try out extracurriculars that capitalize on their areas of giftedness and improve points of weaknesses. They try out risk-taking by challenging themselves in new leadership roles as well as engaging in actions that transcend leadership as a mere title.
- Professional Communication: Students are coached through developing better written and verbal communication skills with their peers and teachers through practice with email and meetings. Students become more confident and independent in their communication practices as well as develop better habits with monitoring their methods of communication including email.
- Organization: Students assess their organizational strengths and weaknesses as well as current systems. Students create better processes and systems to replace the weaknesses and receive accountability for keeping the systems in place.
- Time Management: Students learn about efficiency measures and, working with the guidance of a professional counselor, try out new strategies for better utilizing their time. Students use calendar systems including hard copy and digital to ensure they have balance in how they allocate their time between social, personal, and academic activities.
- Aptitude Discovery and Exploration: Students begin to articulate and harness their academic strengths as well as pursue those strengths through their class selection, extracurricular activities, summer choices, and as tied to future career fields.
