College App Boot Camp: Summer 2016
Guru Academic Advising is pleased to once again be able to offer a college application workshop for rising seniors in the class of 2017. Read more to find out if College App Boot Camp is right for you. The registration form is below.
Who can attend?
This camp is exclusively for rising seniors ready to complete their college applications (juniors, we have a writing workshop that will open soon for you get a jumpstart, if you are interested). Because we have a limited amount of time together and will be completing your applications over three intensive days of work, it's best that students come prepared with an idea of where they will be applying. We can help refine a college list, but you need to have your list mostly ready in order to make the most of the support offered through our bootcamp. Additionally, each day students will have an assignment that needs to be complete before the next day's session begins (homework in summer, bummer, I know!). All students must be willing to have these assignments complete in order for a successful College App Boot Camp experience.
What will be covered?
This camp will give students the opportunity to get a good portion of the work required for their college applications complete. However, we will not be submitting the actual applications together. Students and parents, working together after the conclusion of the camp, should utilize the materials created and knowledge accrued in camp to complete and finalize the applications. By the end of camp, each student will have completed:
When and where?
We have two camp offerings this summer in Flower Mound. Both Monday through Wednesday from 9am to noon at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church, Flower Mound, in classroom 120.
Materials: Each student will be given a binder where we will organize the materials we create and distribute in our camp. Students need to bring a laptop or iPad with Wi-Fi connectivity each day as we will be working online using Google Docs, Google Sheets, and other online materials. It's suggested students create a gmail account to access google docs if they do not already have one.
Cost: $250 - Payment in full is required to secure a student's camp registration. We will cap attendance at 20 students for each camp in order to provide as much individualized support as possible.
Registration and Payment: The form to register is below. Once you have completed the form, we will send you an invoice to complete payment. You may pay with credit card through the link in the invoice, or you may mail in a check, payable to Guru Academic Advising, to the address provided in the invoice. Your spot in the boot camp is not secure until payment is received.
Important Considerations: Participation in this boot camp does not offer you a guarantee of acceptance to any college or university. It also does not offer you a guarantee of any amount in scholarship money. Like most things in life, you will get out of this camp what you are willing to put into it. The harder you work and the degree of effort you put into the days of the camp will determine the quality of your result. We are looking forward to working hard together to help you get a solid foundation built for your college applications.
